Related: About this forumTonight I found I have a fatal flaw as a parent...
I treasure my child more than life itself, but I still don't like kids in general.

I felt the same too...
There is NO requirement that you like kids in general.
Be good to yourself, and your child, and you'll do just fine.

(1,918 posts)Our family has an old joke: while I love my kid to death, I'm not so enamored with yours. It has gotten better though. After 16 years, I look at little kids and think back to how my daughter was at that age. I remember the cuteness and innocence (which she actually still has, even behind the wheel of a car) and I appreciate that their parents are (hopefully) enjoying having them in their lives. I'm still no fan of kids - I stopped at one - but I don't look at them as nuisances any more. Well, unless they're bad, in which case I think that the parents may have a handful at home.
Being a parent can be so complicated!
