Infant formula shortage.

My son and daughter-in-law are having trouble finding infant formula.

I know there is none to be found in the local stores and it cannot be ordered on line.

My internet searching reveals a nationwide shortage caused by - wait for it - supply chain issues. I am unclear what is to be done if we cannot feed our infants.

Supplies Needed

Clean quart container
13 oz. can of evaporated whole milk (reduced fat, skim, and sweetened condensed milk will not provide enough calories or nutrition)
18–19 oz. of water
2 tablespoons of white granulated sugar or 1 tablespoon of light Karo syrup
Instructions

Combine the above ingredients into the quart container.

Stir until the sugar or light syrup is fully dissolved. The added sugar will help your child break down the proteins in the evaporated milk.

After serving your child, any remaining emergency formula should be refrigerated.
Any unused formula should be discarded after three days.

How is it this country can produce an endless supply of guns and weapons without supply chain issues but we cannot produce baby formula?

after my mom got the flu when I was 5 months old and was told to stop nursing me. I was a Carnation baby and I did fine. Next brother, when he was weaned after he bit her, proved to be allergic to cow's milk so he got a goat's milk formula. Youngest was another Carnation baby. I distinctly remember Mom mixing formula and making bottles for him.

Infant formula is a very recent development. 1960s or therabouts.

the same formula recipe I was given in the hospital when my daughter was born 60 years ago. She thrived! We also had a sterilizer that cooked the whole thing. 8 bottles at a time.

And a large part of the shortages are due to the Abbott recall, from which many babies were sickened and one died.

A broader look at the issues from Alabama, of all places.

Much of this stuff is probably already known to them or their pediatrician.

I'm sure the twins will be fine with emergency rations but how in the hell is it possible that there is a shortage of proper infant formula in this country?

I don't buy the "supply chain issues" story. Watch for huge price increases.

In Canada we have no shortage at all. I don't need it but I babysit my 1 year old granddaughter and so go to the baby section to get treats for her and the shelves are full with formula. I just looked it up and there is no shortage in Canada. Somebody is playing games down there.
