Can you really plant multiple bulbs in the same hole?

1. Sure, if the hole is big enough.

I usually dig a hole about 1 ft in diameter for a clump of 7 daffodil or narcissus bulbs, about half that for 7-9 muscari.

I dig an inch or two deeper than needed, then put some bulb booster in, then an inch or so of loose soil to "seat" the bulbs root-side down, before covering them up.

4. About 2-3 times deeper than the height of the bulb.

A small tulip bulb, for example, is about 1.5 inches 'tall' from the root end to the tip. I'd generally plant it 4" deep.

2. Some people do to insure against bad ones

If you are using a good source for bulbs it's probably not necessary, but if you are just picking them up at the big box home improvement store, then it's not a bad idea if you're concerned about coverage the first year.

I like to plant bulbs in random patterns so that if a few don't come up it's not a big deal. In subsequent years they are going to be less uniform anyway.

5. Then the squirrels come along and mess up the whole thing! When I lived in

NC, I had crocus and grape hyacinth coming up all over my yard.

6. I'm not sure why, but I rarely see squirrels around my neighborhood

I have several live oak trees on my property so I figured I'd be overrun with them, but so far it's pretty rare that I see one.
