Aphids on my roses, dang nabbit!!

Makes me so angry! First I thought I'd lost this rose bush to the late snows and freezes, then just when it starts to rebound spectacularly, aphids attack!! I'm spraying the bush with water infused with garlic. I've read online that I should add some dish soap, but I worry about the effect of soap on the leaves. Anyone ever used a home-made aphid repellent? What did you use? Did it work?
