I've lost an old camellia bush - it just turned brown and died overnight.
It's the sixth day of 100+ degree F heat, and no rain at all in that time. This is what hell feels like.

(6,581 posts)It was 104 air temp at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, which is about 30 miles south of me. Crazy. At least I'm getting some rain right now, it's been extremely dry for the past 5 weeks.

(17,276 posts)And this is Wisconsin, not the deep South! This is the "new" south...
Everything is suffering. We are watering what we can and leaving water out for the animals that live in our yard: chipmunks, squirrels, birds--and I'm sure even the insects are glad to find a little water. I have a plastic dish that is supposed to go under a flower pot filled with water--kind of like a bird bath only on the ground. And a regular bird bath on the other side of the house.

(9,791 posts)It's usually pleasant in the Pocono Mountains of NE PA. That hasn't been the case for the past three or four Julys here. It's hot. Pizza oven hot and as dry as a bone. We're watering the tomatoes but they do much better with rain.

(37,926 posts)I go out and check plants four times a day in this heat. I carry a watering container and refresh anyone who looks like they need a cool drink.
In addition, I've gotten out my collection of screens. I put them out to help shield from the sun:
Bean trellis. Newly planted heritage pole beans are given a break from the sun.
