Tiny Forest

I watched the video about Japan's tiny forests and decided to make one in my huge backyard. It's about one fifth the size of the fenced forest at the beginning of the video. I've planted eight native trees at the 'big' end and a couple of shrubby things at the skinny end. I have several wildflowers, grasses and shrubs indigenous to this area in a bed, ready to transplant.

Mulch is scrapped up from beneath the big trees down the back. Weed mat is old cardboard boxes although I did a (slightly) controlled burn of the grass and weeds beforehand.. The box is an insect hotel! I can't wait to watch it grow and the critters move in.
