The Pink Brandywine plants are lookin' good!

There has been a lot of new growth the past two days because we finally had some sun! They are my favorite tomatoes, by far, but I haven’t even attempted to grow anything since the Evil Deer Raid and Pillage of 2020. It was so heart breaking and discouraging.

This year, the yard-level entrance to the lower deck has been blocked off with a covered gas grill, a big flower pot, and very overgrown spirea. When I get some more potting soil there are marigolds ready to go in the big flower pot. Hopefully the barricade will be effective! If not, the plants are mobile.

The little Basil I've been babying along is starting to look good, too!

But they’re indeterminate and early so they continue to grow all of their ~100ish days. Hoops will work early, but they’ll outgrow them pretty quick. if you have a supportive structure above them try hanging them with sisal string (just keep wrapping the string around the leaders for support as they grow) and pinching suckers daily. You can get them 10-12 feet tall depending on your zone and they’ll produce like mad. I companion plant with calendula (pollinators) and basil (flea Beatles), and you can eat both the basil and calendula (calendula is great quickly fried in egg wash and served warm with chèvre and a bottle of wine with the basil).
