Related: About this forumI've never before had to set the mower blade on high after the first few Spring mows
It's October, the grass is growing LIKE it's Springtime and I've had to set it on high for the last 3 mows! I'm going to have to remove the mulching guard to mow the back lot, no matter where the blade is set. It's still so wet and boggy from all of the rain, last week, I haven't mowed it in 2 weeks.
Last year I did the last mow in November. I'm beginning to anticipate mowing in December, this year.
But there's no climate change.

(10,749 posts)Also Im pretty sure that some monarchs didnt make the trip south. We still have some since their food sources are still here.
With the grass growing as it is I sometimes feel as if Im in a twilight zone episode.

Do not mow milkweed.

(27,289 posts)And I never mow milk weed! I always have some growing in my flower beds. This Summer I saw more Monarch Butterflies than I have for the last couple of years.
I actually tried to mow at a lower level but the mower started to struggle, so I move the blade up a notch. Unfortunately, more rain is on the way so I don't know when I'll be able to mow, again. Weird, weird year.

(92,712 posts)Yesterday a friend and I went for a Sunday drive out in the back country boundary to look at foliage. It was a very pleasant, sunny day. I had to get up at 3am and it was raining. Back to bed about an hour later. Got up at 7am and the ground and my car were covered in snow, It's blowing and snowing at a 45 degree angle, weather at NOAA says we are in red winter warning conditions until some time Wednesday. Guess summer's over now.
Not that I didn't know it was coming, and this happens nearly every year, mid October snow and freeze. But most of the local grass was still green. Now all the foliage is over, the freeze will knock everything out of the trees, green or color changed. Glad I was able to catch a lot the colors this year.
Don't know when, but the weather will change for you soon enough, here it happens over night.
