Related: About this forumI got a start on trimming the garlic, this afternoon
Parked myself beneath the branches of the maple tree and got to work on 3 bundles. At least another 10 to go, so I'll ramp it up, tomorrow.
It was a pretty good garlic year so I'll have plenty to share with family and friends. I already used some when I roasted a chicken, on Sunday. I smash the smaller cloves and use them to stuff the chicken, along with fresh herbs (sage, rosemary, thyme) and veg (onion, celery and carrots). I can officially report that this year's garlic is proving to be nice and potent.
I also take the smaller cloves like a garlic pill, every morning. I give it a couple of them a quick bruising and then swallow them whole. Much better than buying products like Garlique.

(106,390 posts)Most cats will probably ignore them planted in the garden, but might sample the leaves. It causes a hemolytic anemia that can be deadly.
Most of it is pulled, now. I have some scrawny sprouts that I need to pull but the leaves are all dried up, now.

(92,813 posts)I am slowly harvesting my Walla Walla sweets, the heat really got to them but the third of them that are still in the ground look like they could get big so I'm waiting. It's all I grew this year.

(27,300 posts)I think you can just plant any cloves, although I'd look for something local rather than what they sell in the grocery stores, now. Unless, of course, it comes from Gilroy, CA.
