Better late than never - My 'Fourth of July' tomatoes are starting to blush

Perhaps I'll just think of them as 'Fourth of August' tomatoes. But no matter the name, I can't WAIT to pick and eat the first of them, fresh off the vine and warmed by the sun. Then I envision a few "M&M" sandwiches. ('Mater and "Mayo sandwich - my Dad's favorite.)

1. My Romas have started to turn as well, except the plants

and tomatoes despite soil prep and waterings seem very small in height and not very productive - I'm guessing a different variety or it being just too hot and stressful for growing tall and fruiting? The green bell peppers seem to be coming along; lettuce, a Red Romaine, done; red and yellow chard plants still providing enough for a few recipes and still putting up new stems/leaves; herbs lush and prolific.

I've also had some grape/cherry tomatoes ripe and ready to pick (hardly enough for even a salad, so they ended up in my mouth on contact, LOL!), but also not as reliably fruiting. To be fair, I bought a different variety this year, a lower, more bushy container variety.

Last year, I had gobs of Cherry 100s mostly all go red later in July/Aug all at the same time and ended up throwing them en masse in the Roma sauce, far too many to use in salads, pasta salads, etc...

We'll see...hoping to see some good corn coming soon at the farmer's market (My north 40 inch garden is too small for corn). YUM!

2. All my veggies seem to be a bit late this year, too.

I’ve been getting lettuce for salads so far and that’s it. (four different varieties)

Got lots of tomatoes that vary from like your photo to still hard and green.

I do think the green beans and cukes will be ready in a couple days.

All the rain we’ve had recently should help! Good luck with your blushy one! I can’t wait.

3. The early blight seems to have hit yours as hard as it hit mine.

Then again, 2 straight weeks of rain in July will do that.
