Gardening
Related: About this forumDear Friends, In addition to your garden do you have an indoor hydroponic system?
My daughter gave me her Aerogrow hydroponic indoor garden system and I love it but she did not give me any instructions. It came to me with herbs she chose. Since most of them have now died, I need to reorder. I threw away the plastic cages that the pods were placed in. I will have to reorder 4 of them plus the new herbs of my choosing.
My question: Can I use any other fertilizer other than the small(expensive) bottle they sell? Have you have good results if you fertilize in this manner?
It bothers me that there is no phone number to contact this company. I tried the chat and that would not work. I'm now waiting for a reply from my email.
Love this system but am very frustrated that I can't reach them by phone.
Anyway: What herbs have you planted that were successful? Would love your advice.
Thanks,
PR

(7,715 posts)We have one of these. All of the consumables (fertilizer, pods/covers, and coir sponges being the main ones) can be sourced elsewhere, at a far cheaper price. I got comparable stuff last year via Amazon.
Start off at Amazon and then check other sites like gardening centers. You will find everything you need.
We contacted Miracle-Gro/AeroGarden to get a couple of pods that didn't germinate. This was in May 2020 or so. We filled out the form, and we got the replacement pods in a week or so.
There are TONS of videos on YouTube too!

(28,394 posts)My son bought me one two years ago and we grew lovely cherry tomatoes. I bought another one this year (the original one was no longer available) for herbs. Some herbs are going great guns, but others are doing nothing. The thyme never sprouted, for example. They also substituted something for the parsley.
The cherry tomatoes are huge and starting to set blossoms.
I have only used the accessories that came with the system. I agree that the directions are very hard to follow. I have never tried to contact the company though. Good luck to you!
