Related: About this forumQuestion about shelf bracket capacity
I have three shelf brackets under a shelf - two large ones at the end and one medium on in the middle. The large brackets support up to 100 lbs evenly distributed per pair. The medium ones support 50 lbs per single piece and 100 lbs per pair when properly installed. All are screwed into studs. The shelf is about 30". My question is - will the shelf support 100 lbs on each 1/2 or less than that?

(36,599 posts)If so, you have 150 lbs of capacity minus the weight of the shelf, if evenly distributed. I don't see how the weight can be distributed evenly amongst the brackets in the setup you've described. The end brackets are handling 7-1/2 inches of shelf and the middle is handling 15 inches. Move the end brackets inward 5 inches from the end of the shelf and each bracket then supports 10 inches of shelf -- 3 brackets each holding 1/3 of the shelf.

(5,299 posts)I can only move the shelf to only being supported by two brackets or leave it the way it is.
I don't need a specific amount of weight to support, I just need to know what my limit is so I don't exceed it.
