Bearing pullers: what's your favorite tool or method?

Since I have suddenly been faced with this issue several times recently, after living a whole life where it *never* came up, I am considering going against my principle of not acquiring single-purpose tools.

Mostly these have been regular-sized AC motors like you would find in various small(ish) household appliances, but certainly not all identical. And some car parts, like an alternator or starter.

First preference is a DIY solution that does not involve welding or intense metal work. Off the shelf re-purposed parts is how I like to roll.

But, willing to capitulate and buy a special tool *if* it is versatile enough that I never have to think about this again. Inner and outer a plus.

Any suggestions?

To the OP: try a tool rental place, they often have single use tools available. The tool itself probably won't break the bank, Amazon has them but you might be able to find better deals at hardware places on or off line.

Bearings are smooth, greasy, and press fit. They really need the right tool.
