What's for Dinner, Sat., March 29, 2025

Orange kabocha squash, apple, & goat cheese salad. The dressing is balsamic and olive oil, maple syrup, and apple cider vinegar. It's served over wheat berries, and topped with toasted pecans and fried sage leaves.

This is one of my last 2 squashes from the 2024 growing season! Here's a pic from when I harvested them. They're kind of unusual and I had to order the seeds to grow them:

Kombucha is mulberry.

For dessert, cold decaf coffee and this new kind of chocolate that has appeared in the stores called "Dubai". My lawyer friend brought me a bar today and I am glad he did because I saw it and said, "Urm, I don't pay $11 for a chocolate bar."

I am limiting myself to one square because I also have a treat from Aldi that is really good! It's carrot cake Easter bark. I'm in dessert heaven this evening!

I've never heard of your kabocha squash. Is it like a butternut?

this squash and butternut, but this one doesn't have as much squash in it as butternut.

My Hispanic gardeners at the community garden asked me to get them the seeds for this, so that's how I got started with it.

sounds delightfully good.
When they get the Aldi open, mention it and I'll give you some good Aldi picks.

You will save so much money and they have fun things all the time.

Like the mascarpone cake you mentioned? Only $10.99 at Aldi this week, but if you buy it anyplace else, it's more like $18.

and using it in a quiche. The stuff grows like a weed and likes to self-seed, so I always have some in the garden.

air fried chicken breast, sauteed onion, bell pepper and mushrooms, provolone. Green beans for a side, I'm thinking of dressing them with some sherry vinegar and olive oil

All four of us had salad with honey mustard dressing. Then had cheeseburgers with seasoned fries.

When I woke up this morning, a thought flitted through my mind. It was "Emile is going to have a cheeseburger tonight." I know that sounds silly, but, ummm, yeah, that happened.

Love wheat berries and make a mean wheat berry chili.

I started with a side salad from work.
Big croutons, bacon and other goodies with ranch dressing.
Then had a beer and some chips and pineapple salsa from dinner the other night.

Later, some vanilla ice cream and some cashew topping a friend made and brought but we didn’t eat all of. It is delish.

Basically noshing with a nice dessert.
