Easy pasta sauce.

28 oz can of tomatoes. Quality maters so the better the tomato the better the sauce. But San Marzano tomatoes are pretty pricey and honestly what's on sale diced or crushed should be fine.
Crush the tomatoes with your hands or in a food mill. Using a blender crushes the seeds and gives a bitter flavor. Honestly though use a blender it's not that bitter.

Add a bit of olive oil (again quality matters), a couple of grinds of black pepper, some fresh basil, and blend it up.

Of course being American we're going to add garlic, salt, and a bunch of other spices. But don't, at least not the first time.
However if you want a thicker sauce a little tomato paste isn't going to hurt.

I haven't bought a jar of store pasta sauce for a couple years now.

so many easy ways to do it with just tomatoes. try using butter and cream with a little pancetta or regular bacon to some smashed up canned tomatoes. then stir in some parm. don't skimp on the parmesan. OMG

Tomato, onion, butter and salt.
I did it once and liked it. Sadly the family didn't.
It's like when I tried to make the most authentic carbonara that I could and they asked where the peas were.

I start with carrot, celery, and onion in olive oil. Then add the meat and after the meat is browned add the sauce.
