Pears. What to do with a few dozen pears?

Not a canning person, and have limited fridge/freezer space, but also just hate discarding good food. My neighbor had a bunch of pears and now I am wondering about how to make them delicious and then disappear.

They seem to be 2 varieties, bosc and the other kind.

Help?

Like, what, flour, brown sugar, oats(?), .... I used to make a peach or apple crisp like that....yum, but never pear. May have to try this tonight, thanks!

Flour, quick oats, sugar, butter- and I like to add chopped walnuts or pecans.

and make pear sauce. If you want to preserve it, though, it's going to have to involve refrigeration or canning. Or you can also just give some of it away to friends and family.

even need to add sugar. I did add cinnamon. It made about 4 quarts. I shared one with neighbor, put one in the fridge, and 2 in the freezer. Very good apple/pear sauce.

If you do something with a crust that you will then freeze, you may want to bake the crust and then put in filling unbaked and topping before freezing so crust doesn't get soggy. The bake after a brief thaw.

Puree, add sugar and cinnamon, simmer some more. Yes, you have to can it but that isn't hard at all.

If you don't/won't can then take some to a local food kitchen for the homeless

If/when sufficiently ripe, I cut into thirds/quarters and smear with Nutella. Got a couple today, likely take a few days to ripen.

Place on a bed of bib or Romain lettuce. A few table spoons of olive oil. Add grated Asiago cheese. Top with choice of toasted pecans, walnuts, pine nuts or pistachios. Salt to taste.

is one of my favorites. Poached pears (poach in a sweetish wine, or water flavored with vanilla) is a good dessert. Or serve them with a good cheese and a glass of port. If they start getting too soft to eat out of hand, I mash the flesh and then use in a cake.

gherkin pickles, cranberry apple relish, and my grandmother's pickled watermelon rind. There was a separate lazy Susan for savory "anti-pasto" selections - i.e., green olives, black olives, dill chips, deviled ham, mustard eggs, and pickled beets.

the pear slices were marinated in boiling hot water, green food coloring, and mint extract until cool and tasty.
The apples were sliced and marinated in boiling water, and cinnamin "red hots" candies."
