What Does Pan Bagnat Mean?
Originally a sandwich for fishermen and other working class folks, pan bagnat shares the stage with the eponymous salad Niçoise as the crown jewels of Niçoise cuisine. The name, which means bathed bread in the Provençal dialect of Niçart, refers to the method of bathing stale bread in water to revive it.
A FABULOUS sandwich, had it 'often' at small lunch place when working in DC.

Warpy
(113,130 posts)is sauteed mushrooms and Swiss cheese, put together and the outside dipped in a runny batter, French toast fixings would work, although I tend to use a bit of flour. Then cook both sides on a griddle, the inside becoming hot and gooey, the outside super crunchy. Yes, a soggy sandwich is hard to handle. The end product is worth it.
It's something I do when I need to treat myself.
