What's for Dinner, Sat., Nov. 25, 2023

Listening to all of you talking about your holiday turkeys made me hungry for poultry, so I stopped at Whole Foods and bought a young Step 2 chicken, which I will put in the slow cooker. I have all the vegetables to put in, like the carrots, garlic, onions, celery, etc. Plus all kinds of herbs from rosemary to thyme to marjoram.

Of course, this will not be done until late, so I'll be snacking on multi-grain tortilla chips and pineapple salsa, and having a kombucha or two.

The bone stock has been simmering for just about 24 hours now. It's a mix of turkey bones and a chicken carcass from the freezer, and a bunch of vegetable trimmings and seasonings. We've got onions, potatoes, carrots, green beans, tomatoes, and celery from this week's farm box, left over turkey, of course, and the pot liquor from Thursday's collard greens. If I can find any okra in the freezer that'll likely end up in the soup too.

from a not very good Mexican restaurant.

HOWEVER, did accomplish my intended purpose in going out: bought Birthday Card for my almost-ten year old grandson!!! AND bought Hanukkah cards for family (as well as pocket calendars for my daughters, a habit/tradition I've established,) so that's done!

Bought books for the kids, as Hanukkah gifts, weeks ago, so it's all over but the wrapping (and delivery!)
