A new farmers market sprung up near me, so I thought Id give it a try. Turned out to be all the same vendors as the other farmers market. My haul this morning was a small frozen beef brisket, two large tomatoes that were so perfect I suspect they werent grown locally, a dozen pastured eggs, and a loaf of rye bread. $39 total.

(22,886 posts)Theres a big one in the town near us in the Lower Catskills. (Its kind of a weekend destination locale.) Weve been going there for years. One farmer, Mr. Heller, has the best vegetables weve ever seen! The butcher is excellent but very expensive. Numerous bakers, other farmers and many craftspeople display their goodies, too. A craft distillery is always there with their whiskies, vodkas, etc. Theyre very good but also beaucoup tres cher!
This market is on Sundays. Wise shoppers often wait until Monday when many items show up in the local supermarket at somewhat lower prices.

(15,012 posts)Bought a bunch of Roma tomatoes to make tomato jam. Also picked up some corn for grilling for tonight's supper. Additionally got some purple sweet potatoes, slicing tomato and some wonderful artisan cheese.

(10,321 posts)When we went a few weeks ago, we got 6 peppers, a bunch of kale, about 2 lbs. okra, about 6 tomatoes, a small basket of heirloom cherry tomatoes, a bag of green beans, 2 lbs. white potatoes, a couple white sweet potatoes, a small watermelon for only about $35.00. All of their stuff is beautiful and they don't use pesticide. They also sell cakes, sweetbreads, jams, canned veggies, pickles. Wish they were closer.
