Better tasting matzoh

OK, I'm more than a non-observant Jew. I'm a freethinker, a member of Ethical Culture.

But that doesn't mean I don't love food associated with Passover.

For years I've enjoyed Manischevitz Matzos. A little shmeer of butter and we're off to the Races!

However, this year I went shopping in a Kosher grocery store. There was the Manischewitz, $3.99 a box. OK. Next to it was another brand, made in not only Israel, but Jerusalem. Haddar Shmura Matzos. For the cost of $11.99.

11.99 for flour and water! Are you meshuga??!!

Yes, I broke down and bought them out of morbid curiosity -- and hunger.

I hate to admit it: they're better. More flavor. More crispiness. I now have a craving for these delightful squares of crunch.

Who knew?

It's been a long time, I haven't seen them here in NM, but those things were actually tasty and took a lot of the privation out of Pesach for friends back home.
