Related: About this forumA report on my burnt hand from earlier this month.
It never got really bad. I don't know if that was because of the burn spray we used or what. The blisters didn't swell very much and then kind of just deflated. This week, the dead skin, where the blisters were, started peeling off. Very itchy!
So thanks to everyone who gave me advice. I noticed that Lodge cast iron skillets are now being sold with a red silicone handle cover.

(24,902 posts)"red silicone handle cover"? Sacrilege! BLASPHEMY!! Let cast iron be cast iron, I say! Everyone knows it's hot when heated! Begone, red silicone handle cover! Thou shalt NEVER TOUCH my cast iron!

(286 posts)Burns are tricky and get infected easily, even well after it looks healed an infection can pop up.

(113,130 posts)so I've long been used to grabbing a towel if I can't grab a pot holder when I need to use the handles. Now that I've gone really blind, I've discovered Ove Gloves, those things do work, silicone attached to canvas gardening gloves. When I'm baking, it's the only way to go.
Your burn sounds typical for a second degree burn and you did the right thing by leaving the blisters alone. It will continue to itch for some time, nerves were damaged even though new skin grew under the blisters.
My wrists can't handle cast iron any more, so the Lodge, the Wagner, and the Le Creuset all got given away to neighborhood cooks. The silicone handles are a good idea but you know most people will lose them by the time the pan is seasoned. It's a nice gesture, though.

(18,161 posts)I have a smal Lodge skillet that I bake biscuits in. I. Do not remember my old Wagners getting rusty so easily. If you are not careful you get a burn every time.

(4,510 posts)Works great. Slips on and off easily, too. I use it on my Vision cookware, too.
So glad you're hand is healing. Not only is it painful, but keeps you from being able to do anything.
