Ancestry/Genealogy
Related: About this forumI found a book on Google Books about my g-g-grandfather.
I searched for his name and his wife's and lo and behold, a book came up called "Outline of the family of Blablabla and Blabla, his wife, of Blablabla, married on suchandsuch date in SoandSo City, Pennsylvania." There is no doubt that this is them. However, the entry says "No preview available" and No reviews and when I search every link they have for locating the book, none of them can find it. So where did this entry come from?? Does it mean there really is a book out there somewhere about my gg-grandparents? I've written to the counties associated with the family but none of them could locate a book with that name in their files or in the local historical libraries. How frustrating!!
Does anyone know where the entries for Google Books like this could come from? How did that entry get there?

(21,786 posts)Or the self-published work of an amateur genealogist. It could be either. And the Historical Society of Pennsylvania is possibly a good place to look; I did a search of Google books for "outline of the family of" and "Pennsylvania" and got something with no publisher or author listed and searched for that and found this:http://discover.hsp.org/Record/hsp.opac.v01-71443/Details (and they have quite a few other and similar things, so that might be your best bet). And they apparently have a service where they'll provide digital reproductions for research purposes, for a fee: http://hsp.org/collections/library-services/rights-and-reproductions

On edit: Does this mean they have the book/manuscript??!! It's a little hard checking this on an iPhone, lol. Guess I better wait til I get home. Thanks again!

(6,218 posts)I really appreciate the help. FYI I have tons of info on the Newkirks. It's the elusive McCalls I'm after. I would LOVE to get my hands on that book!
I'm not too worried about posting names. I have posts all over the Internet looking for the origin of my McCalls. You'll probably see some, lol.
