Anyone doing Early Texas research? (1820s - 1840s)
My ggg-grandfather ELLIS of middle Tennessee signed a contract to settle in Texas in 1830. Also signing were his Father-in-law and his wife's aunt and cousin. I don't know if he ever actually went because he is in western Tennessee in 1850. I am trying to make a connection between him and an Ellis family of middle Tennessee that did have several members go to the Fort Worth area of Texas in 1830-1840. Anyone know of any good resources of that era and place?

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is located in Austin. They have excellent records on genealogical research that should assist in your quest, plus they also may be able to help direct you on specialized topics (land deeds, buildings named after ancestors, etc.). The Website is https://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ .
Please also note that the county located directly south of Dallas is named Ellis county, so there may also be some connection with your family.
