1940 census at Ancestry.com....

At midnight on April 2nd the National Archives will hand off the 1940 census records to Ancestry.com. Ancestry will begin working around the clock to get each census page online as soon as possible.

I don't know about you guys but I can't wait!!!!!

down the days!

I used to have a membership over there, but when I couldn't find any more information, I stopped. Too expensive to keep with no returns.

In the meantime, I've found a few cousins I never knew about, and got some info from them, and I'm ready to start looking again. I'll probably do a one-month membership to check it out at first.

but it looks like they do.

The six months at a time membership is cheaper than the monthly one is.

I don't think they refund if you only use a part of the subscription period, though.

I'm hoping they've added more information since I was a member in 2007. Some ancestors are really doing a good job hiding out....

on Facebook. Seriously! Well, that and the obituaries that led to their names and a guess at where they might be!

When I have been too busy for months on end, I cancel and then start up again later, and all my info is still there.
I have a World subscription so it is more at 29.95 a month. I used to have all US records for 19.95 a month.

after about a 5 year hiatus. Will see what information I get, and then cancel if the trail dries up. But yes...all my prior info was there, plus it looks like some kind relative entered a bunch of stuff on my tree...I don't know how, but there's like four or five generations of info that wasn't there before and I didn't enter it.

Also, a new improvement, being able to compare hints side by side with the option to add new information only instead of the entire record. I really like that.

Call the library and find out if you can bring your own laptop and log in through their server. Otherwise, use one of the library's machines.
