so, i found a cousin on myheritage, 3-5th, it said. i messaged her and turns out she was an adoptee looking for family. we rly clicked, peas in a pod. a couple of other family members went over there last year, and met her. a dear person.
i bugged her to do the ancestry dna, hoping for more info. she did, i did, guess what? ancestry says no.
she- can we still be cousins?
me- i piss off the irish born folks i meet by calling them cousin, so sure.
mistakes do happen.

(7,688 posts)Ancestry and you were not related? Am I understanding this? If so, I suggest you both contact the DNA part of both places and see what happened, rather believe that none of it is true.

(8,179 posts)as I do has some DNA connections that I don't have, my 1st cousin 1R has some DNA connections I don't have.
My brother and I have only done Ancestry DNA, my cousin has done multiple DNA tests and has done at least as much genealogical research as I have.

(779 posts)Ancestry and MyHeritage have different people in their databases. I think MyHeritage tends to have more Europeans than Ancestry, so I presume the two of you live across the pond from each other and have a common ancestor on one continent.
I guess you share about 1% of your DNA in common. An expert in the DNA/genealogy field can probably help you more. If you are a MyHeritage member, perhaps they could provide you a better answer than I have here and may help you identify common ancestors. Looking at the other MyHeritage matches that you both share may help.
Good luck!
im paying for ancestry atm. i dont have access to myheritage unless i pay. i never did pay, but my tree is over the size allowed for free.
i need to spend some time on it. and get off my ass and get my passport.
im almost surprised to find how few ppl im related to. i should be 5th or more cousins w half of tipperay, the way i hear it. the dwyers were prolific.
