I've been doing some research on Geni.com over the past year. Can't believe how many distant relatives I've found in Estonia. My parents came from there.

I located unknown family through my research and some whose names were familiar but of which I knew nothing.
My mother came from Michigan with her parents and sisters when she was just starting college. She, in effect, "shook the dust" from her sandals and didn't retain any ties to her Michigan connections.

Now, I'm finding them, mainly through ancestry.com. I made a "roots tour" to Defiance Ohio and Saginaw MI about 10 yrs ago - visited cemeteries, churches, and looked up an older relative. It's all great fun.

I found a cousin who is a direct descendant on my dad's side a few years ago. Dad was an only child and was not close to his family. About 9 months before he died in 2009, I found many old family photos of my gr. grandparents on an online photo hosting site. Since dad only had one paternal aunt, I knew the person posting them was related. I exchanged a few informative emails with this cousin, and she sent me copies of a few photos I'd never seen before of my grandfather when he was young. She even emailed my father. Then.....nothing. I tried and tried to get her to respond, but it was like she dropped off the face of the earth. She holds ALL of the family photos now

I've been just sick about this, as I thought she was sincere about maintaining a connection. I was even planning a trip to Spokane to meet her.

Here's hoping you have better luck than I did.

I was thinking maybe your cousin could not contact you for some reason, which made me think of a 1st cousin once removed whom I found in my research. He is 83 , the only one left of his family, and I had not talked to him for about two months.

I just called and all is well. It is so strange. I never met Eldon, as our family was scattered all over the west, but when I called him we immediately clicked. We have been talking now for about 5 years. He is a staunch Republican, so we argue politics all the time, but with respect & laughter. He is not going to change my mind, nor I his, nor do either of us want to. We just enjoy visiting.

If you don't mind, pm me your Dad's name and date of birth, parents, etc. I have a great deal of "Nancy Drew" in me. I love ferreting out info, so I will see if I can find any other pictures or notes out there for you. There are so many resources I use, and I would be delighted to hunt for you There are surely more cousins out there you can contact, once you know who you are looking for.

I actually found all the gen info on my family, I just want those pictures and to meet my 2nd cousin! I had a couple of different email addys for her, but she hasn't responded to any of them. I know her sisters' and brother's names too, but you know how it goes with searching for women. Also, their last name is fairly common, and it doesn't help that my cousin changed her first name.
