(47,470 posts)I'm 64 and was eighty pounds overweight. No diabetes, but lots of arthritis. I had both knees replaced.
I've lost almost 40 pounds through lots of exercise (an hour a day, six days a week on a recumbent exercise bike) and with a Lose It app on my Nook.
I can do this, and so can you!

(9,272 posts)and lost 6 lbs in one week. Now I only juice once a day for dinner. My fav juice is organic - carrot, celery, red pepper and apple. I've maintained my weight loss for a month and I'm planning to go on the all juice diet again to see if I can lose another 5.
My skin looks really good from juicing.

(797 posts)Glad to see its working for you, i'm sure a 30 day reboot will give impressive results.
I'm starting what i hope to be a 60 day reboot on Monday. i'm a little apprehensive about this as i've never been on a diet before and i'm hoping my resolve will stay the course or i'll be stuck with a very expensive piece of kitchen equipment collecting dust, and i'll end up just getting fatter, sicker and a lot closer to death..
Now how does one juice bacon?
The craving for real food is intense, not much i can do about it if i want to succeed on the program and by default lose weight and improve health.
Kids are having tacos for supper and the guy next door is cooking steaks on his BBQ, i'm drinking a glass of grass.
Craving for food still intense, feeling weak and unmotivated, after sleeping 12 hours last night at 10am i'm going back to bed, good thing i'm retired,i dont have to call in sick..

(29,100 posts)You have chosen a really difficult path...IMO with going to the full bore juicing fast. I give you a great deal of credit. Honestly I don't think I could do it.
I'm watching your progress and here for support and encouragement. The thing about changing your eating habits is that it is a day to day commitment. The focus on one day at a time has really helped me
I know that when I started my plan, I got really tired around day three too.....It will pass.

(797 posts)And i'm really noticing how much we can become addicted to food.
In my case its a succeed or die early type of motivation, even with that threat hanging over my head i cheated today and had two slices of turkey breast luncheon meat..I cant believe people do this for 60 days..

(29,100 posts)I've lost quite a bit since I started in August...About 65 pounds. I have more to go.... I have times that I "cheat" with more protein or veg than I should. I count carbs and calories and try to stay in that sweet spot that for me causes weight loss. I also have multiple medical issues and mobility limitations. I fall down...and I get back up. My weight loss has slowed significantly in the past few months which I can only attribute to not being hyper careful with what goes into my mouth... Sigh....
I totally understand.

Thursday morning (Today) 237lbs
Not going well today, the feeling of emptiness is overwhelming, not sure how much more of this constant craving for food i can take. I also have to ultimately deal with the delema of adopting a dietary lifestyle of not putting any weight i lose back on, thats going to be very tough as i sit here dreaming of devouring all manner of deep fried food when the diet ends.

(10,849 posts)Reached a temporary weight loss plateau at 15lbs. dont feel much better just hungry. i'm also starting to worry about whether i have what it takes to commit to the lifestyle change its going to take at the end of this 60 day juice diet to not put the weight back on as food in the future will be relegated mostly to vegetarian with the occasional piece of fish.If i cant change to that new dietary lifestyle i'll gain the weight back as fast as i lost it making the whole exercise a pointless endeavor.

(797 posts)I could deal with the constant feeling of hunger but i couldnt deal with the daily low blood sugar bouts and the frequent leg cramps.
Today i woke up at 10am sweating profusely with barely enough strength to reach the sugar pills beside the bed, after chewing on a few a major leg cramp occurred but due to low blood sugar i didnt have the energy to get out of bed so 10 minutes of extreme agony ensued.I guess if i'm to lose weight it will be through sensible diet rather than a radical approach of all juice for 60 days.
In the mean time i'll continue to supplement my diet with a juice once or twice a day and try to lay off the unhealthy foods that make us obese in the first place..

(50,566 posts)After awhile you will probably start to enjoy/crave healthy foods more (not that you won't have some cravings for the bad stuff, too, but you need to find a way to make those very occasional splurges).
Good luck!

(797 posts)I never was into the burger, fries and pizza lifestyle and mostly ate whole foods but over eating the good food will put on the pounds over time.
My changed diet now starts with a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast,a juice at 10ish no lunch, another juice at 3ish then a sensible supper at around 6.

(1,925 posts)once daily... and started using the pulp (it's washed & clean) with frozen blueberries &/or frozen raspberries & water, in my blender to make a smoothie.
I found using 100% juice only was making me dizzy...
Hope you are doing well...

(123,135 posts)I make only green ones. I'm trying to wean myself off the added sugar and fruit but regardless I lost 2 pounds this week. And I like it. Ordered pizza the other night and didn't enjoy it. I love kale. I love the say I feel. I can manage this. I add the contents of herbal tea bags to add flavour.
I am also 90 pounds overweight. I was a take out addict. I love this change in my life. And it feels manageable. So save your money for a blender blendtec or vitamix that will liquefy anything. I make up baggies of frozen kale, parsley, ginger, apples, etc. one day a week and then have a nice cold smoothie in about 5 minutes each night. Easy clean up. I feel great. You will do. Don't give up.

(797 posts)I'm now up to 265lbs and its time to try this juicing diet again, ,this time its not all juicing as it takes stronger resolve than i have to accomplish a full juice fast so second time around its=
a juice at 7am
handfull of almonds at 10am
a smoothie at noon
another handful of nuts at 3pm
and for supper an 8oz juice and a small paleo dinner
So far so good as on day 5 i'm down 10lbs..

(19,089 posts)I know you have heard it all, but I have to say I am not a fan of the juice diet, for this reason: It is unsustainable over the long term ...
I have lost nearly 70 lbs using the 5:2 Alternate Day Fasting diet ... it has taken 18 months to get there, so it has been a long term process, but that is what I was looking for ... not a fast, flash in the pan crash diet ....
Search for 'vimeo Michael Moseley eat fast and live longer'
I now 'fast' two days a week, and eat moderately the other five days (hence the '5-2 reference) ... By 'fast', I mean calorie restricted on fast days, not starving .... 500 calories for women, 600 calories for men ... it's easier than you think ....heavy on veggies with light whole grain and fruits (whole fruits with pulp intact)
It is saving my life, right now ...
Go find and watch the video ... good luck

(797 posts)Congratulations on your success Trajan.
.I got a week in this time, before giving up, lost about 10lbs but i just find the juicing diet too extreme, unnatural and unsustainable,
i've since came up with a sustainable alternative, its called becoming a vegetarian, been a vegetarian for a little over a week now and its something i can handle, i'm down another 10lbs and my diabetic medication has been cut in half , I'm basically following the Dr Joel Furhman dietary lifestyle.

(19,089 posts)And congratulations on beginning your vegetarian lifestyle ..
I would, however, search and watch the video ... it will kickstart your weightloss and lead to better blood chemistry, quickly ...
Watch the video ... it changed my life ... NOT a fad diet ... Watch it before you condemn it ...
Btw: ADF 5:2 is very compatible with vegetarianism ...
jambo101
(797 posts)Interesting concept, doesnt seem impossible to do like the juicing diet.
Perhaps i'll include a day of 500 calories in my new vegetarian dietary regime.

(19,089 posts)I wanted to update you ...
I am down nearly 100 lbs ... 26 months to go from 274 to 178, and still moving toward my goal weight of 160 lbs ...
If you have not yet found success using your methods, I would implore you to try the 5:2 Fast Diet ...
https://thefastdiet.co.uk
My weight loss has averaged 3.75 lbs per month .. It's not rapid weight loss, but it is steady and consistent ...
NOTHING ELSE I have tried has had this level of success ...
Feel free to ask me anything about it ... I am going to post a new thread regarding the Fast Diet and it will include information regarding the science of this approach ... It works it works it works ...

(797 posts),Spent 10 days in the hospital recuperating from a mild stroke, I let it all get out of control and the doctor says it was caused by uncontrolled Blood sugar/Blood pressure and cholesterol as a result of diabetes and obesity.
Since i had the stroke i'm down 30lbs as a combination of hospital food and large doses of diuretics.
