Weight Loss/Maintenance
Related: About this forumAnyone here using Alternate Day Fasting?
I learned about this on PBS earlier this week. http://video.pbs.org/video/2363162206/
Here is a basic summary of the technique.

Alternate Day Fasting what is it, in a nutshell?
In a nutshell, Alternate Day Fasting is a method of dieting and calorie control. To summarise, when you are following an Alternate Day Fasting program, you eat whatever food you like on day 1, and on day 2, you consume a very limited amount of calories (typically less than 400 calories for women, and 500 calories for men). Then on day 3, you eat whatever you like again, and on day 4, again consume a limited amount of calories again. This pattern is simply repeated over and over again.
The theory behind this is that, overall, you are consuming less calories than you normally would, therefore, weight loss is inevitable.
I've been on it for nearly a week and I see some positive effects on the scales. I eat a good high protein breakfast, and then I drink a lot of liquids and low cal foods like fruits and veggies. Ginger tea seems a good hunger suppressant.
Give it a try to see how you like it.

(3,073 posts)5 days eating normally, 2 days at 500 calories. So far so good- its not easy doing 500 calories believe me but it is possible with lots of low cal veggies. I am not sure if I've lost anything yet but I actually feel better and it feels like it makes sense - plus its bearable knowing that the next day I can eat normally (but no gorging). Book was helpful but no need to buy it- key is writing down every item and careful planning. It is all the rage in the UK - just starting to catch on here I think...

(60,156 posts)every other day routine. I find that on the feast days I pay attention to what I eat. I eat as Michael Pollan suggests: "eat food, not too much, mostly plants." Yesterday I made cauliflower soup and bean burritos. Today it will be a peanut butter on whole wheat, and Asparagus Milanese. It will be around 600 cals, but I am going to be burning a lot of cals today on my photo walk.
