Federal judge blocks restrictive Missouri abortion law

(Reuters) - A federal judge on Tuesday blocked Missouri from enforcing a law banning abortion in the state after eight weeks except in cases of medical emergency.

The law was set to take effect on Wednesday, but U.S. District Judge Howard Sachs in Kansas City ruled that the state not enforce it, pending litigation or further order of the court, according to a court document.

“While federal courts should generally be very cautious before delaying the effect of State laws, the sense of caution may be mitigated when the legislation seems designed, as here, as a protest against Supreme Court decisions,” the judge wrote.

“The hostility to, and refusal to comply with, the Supreme Court’s abortion jurisprudence is most obviously demonstrated in the attempt to push ‘viability’ protection downward in various weekly stages to 8 weeks.”

with these crazy state abortion laws being passed.

1. Legislators are passing these laws to funnel taxpayer money to their lawyer friends who will make a lucrative career out of the futility of defending them. Said legislators will be rewarded with high paying jobs at law firms after they leave or are forced to leave office.

2. The fix is in and they think they will win at SCOTUS level.

They have a big problem, though: the Supreme Court has always been hesitant to reverse precedent.

Worse for the antis: when the Court has overturned a Fourteenth Amendment case, which Roe is, they've always gone in the direction of more freedom not less, and in Planned Parenthood v Casey they already upheld a woman's right to obtain abortion services.

law of the land. Not only because they are wasting my tax dollars doing their crap, they should be doing other things to enhance the value they provide to MO voters instead of fishing for political gain. All of them should be voted out of office (the repugs).
