Anyone know Guilline-Barre syndrome?
I had a pretty bad infection in Jan. Required a week in the hospital. This was on top of my Crohn's and pancreatitis. I was blessed with campyflorbactrim spelled wrong I am sure.
as a result of that, my doctor said I needed to watch out for Guilline-Barre syndrom. It has been over 6 weeks so I thought I was in the clear.
Last week i woke up with my left foot completely numb and tingling in my left arm.
I have a Doc appt on the 19th and no one seemed to worried -other than me freaking out.
now it is just tingling hard.
not sure what to think.

(16,254 posts)This site to Mayo Clinic describes the symptoms and has some good and encouraging information. However, I would contact your doctor tomorrow. He might be able to do something for you before the 19th.

There are other sites where you might be able to get even more information, but you do need to know what you are dealing with so you aren't frightened. Knowledge helps a great deal.
Good luck! Let us know how things work out.

(16,528 posts)I think usually the tingling is bilateral and is an ascending paresis/paralysis. I would certainly go back to the doctor.
On edit:I don't want to unduly alarm you but, if the symptoms persist and the doctor is not available, I'd go to the ER.

(21,646 posts)Yes weakness and tingling are symptoms of GB
its not that common of a disease but yes usually appears days or weeks after being sick. There are tests to rule out GB, it can also be a delayed medication reaction.. . check out what ever they gave you for the illness if GB is ruled out by the tests at https://www.askapatient.com/
A relative had this but recovered and is OK
take care

(1,407 posts)She had the tingling, became partially paralyzed (but mostly recovered) and needed hospital care for several weeks, received SSD because she was unable to continue her work as a bank cashier.
I agree with the others that you should contact your Dr. again. My mother was driving (by herself) and was barely able to pull off the road when tingling started in her arms.

(979 posts)I had a co-worker that had this, and it was VERY serious. He wound up in hospital on a ventilator.
Not to scare you, but PLEASE take this seriously, don't mess around.
Caution can pay off.

(70,123 posts)Guy at work didn't get to ventilator but got to a point where it would take him 5 minutes to walk down the hall.
On the bright side, he's been perfectly fine for years, since.

(664 posts)I had Guillan-Barre Syndrome when I was about 12 -13.
I think my GBS was a reaction to a flu shot that I got in the ER when my Mom took me there. I had gotten through the worst of suffering from flu-like symptoms for two or three days and my Mom wanted to make sure it was okay for me to go back to school. This was in October of 74?
By the middle of November I was becoming progressively weaker - I walked back and forth to school with kids in the neighborhood everyday and I was beginning to have trouble walking up and down steps. One day after school, I couldn't make it up a small incline and had to take the long way home from school. I told my Mom that I didn't want to go to school anymore because something was wrong with me.
She took me to the hospital, I told them my symptoms, they performed lots of tests and several diagnoses were ruled out, Myasthenia Gravis among them. At the time, my Mom's sister, Olie had recently been diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis.
I then began to have issues with numbness and tingling in my hands, fingers, toes and feet. Get this: I couldn't keep my eyes from crossing. I could grasp a door knob but I couldn't grasp it tightly enough to turn it! I had a really hard time holding a pencil, too! By December, I was unable to walk even short distances without holding onto furniture or trailing the walls as my knees buckled often.
I'm guessing that my condition bottomed out in January or February. During that time I think I read that Andy Griffith was also recovering from GBS. I never lost the ability to breathe on my own and I never became incontinent. By the End of March, I was strong enough to return to school, but not for full days, yet.
During the same spring that I was recovering from GBS, Tycoon Ari Onasis and my Aunt Olie died from Myasthenia Gravis...
If the OP is reading this, I hope it means that you have fully recovered. I'm glad you're still with us...
Don't take any flu shots!
