A number of substances might improve health in a lot of situations

with low or no risk.

For example, resveratrol may be useful for glaucoma, cardiovascular disease, back pain and arthritis, it may also be good for the brain, some kinds of dabetes, and so on.

Curcumin is similarly useful, it may even prevent Alzheimers, they discovered that because people who eat curry a lot rarely get Alzheimers.

n-acetylcysteine helps prevent many cancers and helps the body deal with many toxic substances we encounter a lot.

And so on..

and it definitely gives me more energy. With all the toxic substances around us, this is a good amino to take.

I have arthritis in one knee, so I've been taking lots of curcumin instead of Advil. I use Meriva as it's a time release curcumin. I've been taking curcumin along with white widow bark to alleviate the pain.

Look into the amino L'arginine - I take mega l'arginine as it dilates the blood vessels and lowers blood pressure and cholesterol. Dr. Louis
Ignarro was a co-recepient of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1998 for his studies of nitric oxide. He has a book out about this. He claims taking l/arginine morning and evening creates nitric oxice which dilates your blood vessels and can help prevent heart attacks and strokes. It's also known as the natural Viagra as Dr. Ignarro's work led to Viagra.

a product sold by many supplement companies called 5-Loxin inhibits the inflammatory enzyme, 5-lipoxygenase. I had used Curcumin for a number of years for a bad knee and found it helped.. When 5-Loxin became available I started using it (I buy mine from Life Extension Foundation). I found it really added to the effect of Curcumin and noticed a significant reduction of swelling of the knee.

I highly recommend it to those suffering with arthritis or anybody with swelling, pain and attendant reduced range of motion in joints.

here's some research on 5-Loxin from PubMed: A double blind, randomized, placebo controlled study of the efficacy and safety of 5-Loxin®for treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee

CONCLUSION: 5-Loxin reduces pain and improves physical functioning significantly in OA patients; and it is safe for human consumption. 5-Loxin may exert its beneficial effects by controlling inflammatory responses through reducing proinflammatory modulators, and it may improve joint health by reducing the enzymatic degradation of cartilage in OA patients.

... and: Lipooxygenase inhibition in osteoarthritis: a potential symptomatic and disease modifying effect?
5-Loxin is a compound extracted from an ancient herb that might be considered as a potent lipooxygenase inhibitor. The results observed in a preliminary trial suggest a highly intriguing clinically relevant symptomatic effect contrasting with a poor bioavailability of this compound. Moreover, in this trial, a statistically significant decrease in matrix metalloproteinase enzyme serum level suggests that, in addition to the observed symptomatic effect, such a compound might have a disease modifying effect in osteoarthritis. Further studies are required both to confirm the symptomatic efficacy and acceptable safety profile and to evaluate the potential chondromodulating effect of this compound.
