Nerve burn?

I asked my neurologist what to say when someone asks me what I have, and he named off a 15 syllable problem, smiled, then told me to say "neck pain." Have had the problem for many many years and it's a little worse because of arthritis adding it.

Just finished two 6-hour tests a week apart following injections to the neck. It was to determine if there was any temporary improvement from the shots during the 6-hour period following the shots. There was definitely an improvement, from pain to ease of movement, less pressure even on the ears, etc. After 6 hours, the pain returned.

Since I had an improvement in the 90% area, insurance will pay for something akin to burning a troublesome nerve, done in the doctor's office. If there had been no improvement, insurance would not pay.

Has anyone ever had a nerve burned?

knee (a torn meniscus) gave me a cortisone shot in the knee near the tear; it gave relief, and he said I could go on for years just getting a cortisone shot every year. However, he did say that when the shot became ineffective (and it would), surgery would be required. I asked him specifically what was done during the surgery. He told me the tear would be trimmed and cleaned up, and nearby nerves would be burned so they no longer transmitted pain. I'm assuming your doc would be doing the same thing for a similar reason. My doc said it was a simple operation with great results.

i have one i want to kill.
have a hypersensitive middle finger on my right hand. it drives my nuts.

have to see a hand guy, tho i think the real trouble is upstream.
i cant touch anything cold, or the thing just explodes in pain and cold. and its getting worse all the time.
started with a couple discs that herniated, but never got better after the fusion. cramps and tingles from the shoulder cuff to the finger tips.
argh.
