Cancer Support
Related: About this forumTransportation from DC to NYC for surgery
My wife is going to Sloan Kettering in NYC for surgery to get a biopsy of her lùng.
We live just north of DC, near Rockville.
I want to go with her for support. I have limited mobility and will be using a rollator.
We hope to get a room a few blocks from the hospital, as she will be inpatient for a few days.
I can't carry much luggage and use the. rollator at the same time. She will not be allowed to lift more than 10 pounds after surgery
We looked into a car service to take us door to door and it will cost $1000 one way.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

(407 posts)Nice woman, but no help on the specifics of getting to NYC, other than expensive car service.
Train is a possibility, but still a lot of walking with luggage.

(11,807 posts)It should certainly be less than car service, even shipping it both ways.

Their website had this on it:
"How can I find lodging or transportation to my treatment location?"
We will search both local and national resources for transportation and link you to them. We also partner with organizations like Joes House to offer discounted, low cost or (occasionally) free lodging options for people receiving treatment for cancer.
I think this link leads to their local DC chapter:

I don't know if any of this will help you, but know that I wish the both of you the best of everything.

(262 posts)Can you ship your luggage via UPS? Let hotel know so they hold it for you in their mail room Amtrak to NY. I use to coordinate international medical conferences and shipped materials all the time.
