that no one has posted here in 1 1/2 years. My son has high functioning autism. Look how busy this place was until April 2016. Did you all take your discussions private?

(10,688 posts)I dont post here but read this forum. As someone who works in the field (ABA provider) I just stopped ready the summer of the election and havent been back since. Combination of burnout from the election (I was banned from the Bernie forum for asking if he had an ASD plan like Hillary - my only post to that forum - was for a blog post for work on the candidates). It was just too much drama.

(694 posts)Yes, it does tend to get dramatic around here.
I find my own little comfy spot. Read a lot, respond when I'm inclined to, and never start a post unless I'm likely to be around to reply.
I tend to do the same. I find a safe space and hang out. Recently it hasnt been on DU though. There are times I just cant handle the catastrophe fiends because it just all seems so plausibile.

(20,544 posts)Alexei is your beloved son.
We have an Alexy (Alexander) in our midst, a son of dearest hearts of ours. His oldest brother is autistic. High school age. Handsome looker of a fellow. They have four boys altogether.
They must have grace and strength untold to keep that family going. I often cry tears for them.
I have tears writing this to you.
Please forgive me if this does offend, but right now I'm crying out to Heaven to send you and yours blessed peace, strength and well-being that is 'not-of-this-world'.
Love from a sister DUer,

(20,544 posts)It just touched my heart knowing about him.
Those with special needs I feel are 'gifts'.
My husband had a first cousin who was 'handi-capable'; he was afflicted with some palsy and limited brain development. Richard was beauiful in his own inimitable way. He showed some spirituality that really moved us. We thinking/assuming he had no grasp of some things. Surprising and awe worthy.
I'm of Slavic (Czechoslovakian) descent and that you received him from Ukraine made my heart sing.

(694 posts)Thank you for such a loving response.
I suppose we have a few DU groups that could deserve a bit more attention.

(26,652 posts)I'll add a brag: he is now in a PhD program in astronomy at a university on the east coast. Earlier this month he spent a week in Cambridge, England, at an exo-planet conference.
He's had a lot of struggles over the years, as intelligent as he is, and he is FINALLY, at the age of 35 where he should be.
