Question for Dexter fans.

I didn’t have Showtime when this show was on, I’m just starting to binge the series. I’m on the second episode of the first season. The three women in his life on the show are all simpering idiots. His boss and his girlfriend gaze at him adoringly, they want him. His sister does the same but without the want part.

My question is this: is this just bad acting, or is this a theme of the show, like how he views all women? Is this explained in the show, or do I need to quit watching because of the bad acting?

Thank you 😊

which means that I had to wait every week for a new episode and then many months for the next season (how it used to be before Netflix, streaming, and we could all binge). I didn't enjoy some seasons as much as others but season 4 is without question one of the best seasons of any T.V. show ever. Having said that, you'll need to watch seasons 1 - 3 (you'll really need the character development, foundation, context, etc.) and not just skip to season 4. And I have to say, I liked seasons 1 -3 anyway.

As each layer is pealed away, more is revealed. The relationships Dexter has with the people in his life all figure into the plot lines.

Keep watching. Each season has its own arc made up of individual episodes that have their own individual stories. Brilliant TV writing. Since it was a cable show, there's lots of sex and violence in the story-telling.

Another aspect of the season-long story arcs is the guest stars in later seasons including John Lithgow, Keith Carradine, Colin Hanks, Edward James Olmos (the creepiest, IMHO) and Jimmie Smits.

The first season about the Ice Truck killer was based on the novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay. Subsequent seasons were written for the show by various writers.

The show was a pretty big hit for Showtime. I was totally hooked by seasons 1-7 and couldn't wait for the 8th and final season. Without spoiling anything, it's all well worth your while.

except for the girlfriend, i can’t figure if it’s the character or the acting that’s grating on my nerves.
