Movie Wine Country has got to be the most
Contrived, cliche, inane, poorly written movie I think was ever made. Emmy winner Tina Fey should be ashamed - she is crazily inept My dog could act better. Amy Poehler only one with a glimpse of talent.
Plot: group of former coworkers go on a trip together in Napa.

(42,770 posts)I think there are elements of dealing with VRBO, pulling a group together in these busy times, going to wine tastings that people can identify with. It's just that they aren't particularly humourous. Not even sure if Seinfeld and David could have made it all funny.
Bif, do actors have an out? Evidently they all read the script and thought it had promise? Or, maybe there was the appeal of all working together since many are friends? Is there a point later in production that someone can say "this sucks, I want out ?"

(24,036 posts)The big paycheck probably keeps them showing up every day for the shoot. And you just never know how a movie is going to turn out. I suspect a lot of times, the best material gets edited out. That's why outtakes at the end of movies was so popular for a while. Seems like you rarely see those any more. Maybe so they can sell "The Director's Cut" on DVD.

(31,807 posts)Woody Allen is famous for keeping takes at a minimum, but Blanchett insisted on doing scenes over and over until she felt they were right. I'm sure there was a lot of eye rolling and diva insinuations, but when it was all over Blanchett got the Oscar, Allen got the credit, and investors got a boost at the box office.
What I'm getting at that one person cared just enough, and it made a huge difference.
It takes an entire company to make a great production. Maybe the cast, crew and producers did see it as just a paycheck. Maybe there was little collaboration. No ad libbing, spontaneity, or last-minute rewrites. No oversight. And that's too bad.
I agree that one is never quite sure how a film might turn out. It's art, and there's always a degree of risk in creating it. IMO the perseverance and tenacity of the artists involved can dictate whether it's at least an honest attempt or a fraud.
