"Harry Wild" is a hoot!

It's on Acorn (British), and set in Ireland. It's about a crotchety retired literature professor named Harriet Wild (played by Jane Seymour) who, with the help of a teen who once mugged her, gets lured into solving murders. Her skeptical son, who happens to be a detective in the Garda, slowly begins to realize Mom is pretty brilliant.

It's such a great pairing, the 72-year-old (but still glamorous) Seymour with the black, wise-cracking teen who's also a real find as an actor. And the way Seymour's character goes about solving these horrific murders has a lot to do with literature and books.

The first episode was nominated for an Edgar Award for best teleplay, episodic television.

This series sounds great and may be worth me getting an Acorn subscription again. I switched to Brit Box several years ago. I'll watch a couple episodes ($1.99 per) and then decide.

Had a hard time getting the closed caption to work. I subscribe, mainly to watch my old faves Vera and Shetland and Death in Paradise, all of which seem to be on hiatus, alas. I find Acorn easier to use.

Acorn has a lot of content, including some I've seen some time ago. But finding the gems for shows I've never heard of is not always easy.

About a father and 2 teenage kids who move to a small New Zealand town after the man’s wife suddenly dies. Their adventures as outsiders, dealing with grief and struggling to fit in, are both hilarious and touching. Lots of cool Māori references. 800 words refers to the length of the newspaper column he writes every week.

I do not consider myself crotchety.

Regardless, it is a great show
