"A Fancy Piece of Homicide" on Hoopla

Indie film written/produced in Pittsburgh.

I couldn't stop watching. I'll refer you to this review by Amazon reviewer Graham Crawford.

This is a great slow-burn mystery that puts you in the shoes of a washed up alcoholic 75-year-old former P.I. who did time for the murder of a prominent citizen which he did not commit. He's putting the finishing touches on a memoir that attempts to set the record straight. But he still doesn't have the STORY straight, and that eats at him. He only knows he didn't commit the murder. But who did? It manages to be both a spine-tingling mystery and masterful character study. Tension escalates exquisitely. It held me spellbound with its careful attention to setting, production design, lighting, music score and mise en scène. It asks for no charity regarding its slight budget and rewards intelligent viewers who regard cinema as an art form. It deserves to be more widely seen.

Check it out. You can also get Kanopy, which has the same business model. They are supported by libraries and the library pays on a per transaction basis for its patrons. There are limits on how many you can check out each month. At our library it's 8 each, iirc.

We here at DU should be aware of this about Hoopla, though:

Controversy
Hoopla and Midwest Tapes have been censured by the Library Freedom Project for hosting what it described as "fascist propaganda", including a recent English translation of A New Nobility of Blood and Soil by Richard Walther Darré of the SS and books related to Holocaust denial, in public library collections without the input from the staff. Criticism was also directed at the inclusion of books on homosexuality, abortion, and vaccines claimed by the Library Freedom Project to be misinformation. On February 17, 2022, Hoopla removed a number of titles after public outcry about Holocaust denial books available on the app under non-fiction.

above is from Wikipedia.

My local library is not very good but I looked at the Boulder library and they have it. I'll sign up with them and check it out. Thanks
