Finally watched "All Quiet on the Western Front".
As grim as I thought it would be. Powerful anti-war film. I'm sure it'll take a few Oscars this year.

(36,242 posts)IMO. Certainly the best with an antiwar message. It blows me away this this was made such a short time after the actual war. It didnt have to be sensationalized to show the senseless destruction, horror and inhumanity. I would be interested in seeing the new one just for comparison

Edit: Went back and finished it today (4 days later). Gruesome. Horrific. And the juxtaposition of the food at the end--oh, the horror of day old croissants--was very effective.
It definitely is Oscar worthy.
