1. Sounds like a lot of religious schlock. Well-acted, they say, if you're into

that sort of thing. But I read that Wahlberg was inspired by Mel Gibson to make the movie so that's enough to warn me off...

I don't know who is worse, Wahlberg or Gibson. Just terrible. I can't say enough bad things about this movie.

5. Gibson is actually quite a good actor, or at least he was in his early movies.

"The Year of Living Dangerously" and "Gallipoli" are excellent, still among my favorites. But at some point he went nuts and became (or revealed himself as) a religious fanatic, an anti-Semite, a drunk and an all-around crappy human being. I don't know much about Wahlberg.

Only movies he's been halfway decent in is Basketball Diaries and The Departed - but that's because he had people with serious acting chops to hold him up.

Now I will say - the Other Guys is hysterical - and he's wonderful in it. But I think that's because how can you not have fun playing straight man to Will Ferrell. He was having a good time - but it was still Wahlberg.

But I'd rate him down there with Ben Affleck. Actually Affleck has gotten better over time. I enjoyed him in "The Tender Bar."

7. It is a shame it was not scripted and acted better. The true story is a good one.

Father Stu did impact many people for the better, not sure he deserved an entire movie based on his life, but there ya go.

I think the reviews on imdb are made by people praising the story over the acting in a subconscious fear of belittling a story of redemption.

Just my $20...(cost of movie and popcorn and soda)

10. I'm not surprised to hear it's terrible.

There may be good reviews out there, but there are some scathing ones, too. I just read one that called it "a right-wing dog whistle disguised as a tribute to Catholic faith." Here's the link: https://www.slantmagazine.com/film/father-stu-review-mark-wahlberg-mel-gibson/

I think I'll be skipping this one myself.
