now Russia will go to cover up the truth. There is still no clear toll of number of people who died.

No matter you may have heard to the contrary. Suggest you look up the fate of Navalny and anyone else who dares to dispute Putins version of reality. Ordinary folks who took to the streets to oppose the invasion of Ukraine were threatened with10 years in prison.
