Some thought on Yellowstone starring Kevin Costner.
I'm watching this season on Amazon Prime and I am regretting pre-ordering the episodes.
The first 3 seasons of Yellowstone were, for the most part, excellent. Kevin Costner is a great actor. The season finale of season 3 was really something. Season 4, on the other hand, so far has been a meandering mess. Disjointed story lines, stupid story lines, and out of control characters.
Beth in particular has become a caricature of herself. She is exhibiting behavior that should have her involuntary admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
The way they are dealing with Carter is ridiculous. Since no one is brave enough to buy him a new tee shirt does that also mean he is not allowed to use the washing machine in the bunkhouse?
I can't stand the whole Lloyd/Walker thing. Give me a break. And the Jimmy story has become boring.
It seems like after ending last season with an epic cliffhanger, the writers of the show have decided to kick back and wing it.
Season 4 (mid-term grade): C-

(2,113 posts)I'm getting really aggravated with the Lloyd storyline. They need to get back to dealing with the perpetrator(s) of the S3 finale. (Worded to avoid spoiler.)
And oh yeah...
FFS, can they possibly make Monica whine any more?!?!? I'm sooooooo sick of her. She needs to "Beth up".

(106,647 posts)I too prepurchased the season on Amazon Prime. And yes, it has become disjointed, but, I'm hopeful it will improve.

(31,868 posts)I understand the economics of ityou have a hit, a decent production staff, and committed stars. Keep it going to maximize investment.
But unless you have great characters and great story arcs, or continue to introduce new characters and story arcs (The Sopranos IMO), series can begin drag in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth year.

(15,325 posts)...disjointed pieces all fit together.
Because that's how Costner & Taylor Sheridan make the story.
I like Sheridan. His subtle role in Sons of Anarchy to his story telling style since then.
He's an intriguing talented character, so I'll have patience with the way this Y season is beginning.
Taylor Sheriden:
..the last few years, many fans have come to know Taylor Sheridan for his gripping sense of drama, writing and helming shows like the mega-hit Yellowstone and its upcoming prequel and spinoff, as well as films like Hell or High Water and Those Who Wish Me Dead.
But some may not know that the multi-hyphenate creator actually got his start as an actor, appearing in stints on shows like Veronica Mars and Sons of Anarchy.
And this season on Yellowstone, he's been getting back to his roots, appearing as cowboy and horsetrader Travis Wheatley.
Intriguing... & with seasoned talent like Costner, & Sheridan's multi-level drama style, there's always a new twist & its never dull for long.

I can't wait to see where all the moving parts to this beginning season lead up to, near the middle, & in the grand final episode.
Love the show.

(109 posts)I watched it originally, but for me almost none of the characters are likable and I really hate Beth. So I don't watch it anymore.

(8,502 posts)watching it but today learned that TX Ag Commissioner (Jesus Shot) Sid Miller is making a cameo appearance - that was enough to convince me ....not gonna happen. He is a disgusting POS.

(41,384 posts)1883 is a different tv show. That show is a prequel and is about the ancestors of the family in Yellowstone.
The main problem with Yellowstone isnt politics. The problem is that all the characters are unlikable. The only really nice person in the show is the family cook.

(41,384 posts)Kevin Costner is a great actor, but his character runs his ranch like a mob boss. The daughter is a psychopath and although she hasnt killed anyone (that we know of), one of his sons is actually a murderer and also happens to be the Attorney General of Montana. It is kind of crazy.

(18,164 posts)and I have to say this is one of the most dysfunctional families I've ever seen on television. Daddy and Beth love each other, and everyone else hates each other. Although I must say, its the first time I've ever seen both parents tell a daughter to "man up".
The great scenery and cowboy stuff makes it more entertaining, but the story line of the ranch business has never interested me. Its like Yellowstone has to continue to exist for no real reason than that it already has for 100 years. The corruption, nepotism, and violence is just ridiculous.
