Started watching the original "The Outer Limits". Wow!

Not only has the show held up well. I think it was about 50 years ahead of its time.

1. The remake never held a candle to it

I was an original fan of the original.

2. I was a little kid when it first aired. And it scared the crap out of me!

I remember covering my ears during the opening part of the show.

I'll catch up with it as it is. Funny thing....the picture rolling stuff at the beginning used to actually happen on TVs of the time.

They used to run an hour of
Outter limits and 4 episodes of Twilight
Zone together on Saturdays .

7. Gene Roddenberry wrote the series as a way to talk about racism and other social

ills that were taboo. I've noticed the same thing in old series like Ponderosa. Some of them reflect an early evolution that was barely better than the root issue. Saw an episode of Ponderosa recently about discrimination and hatred of Native Americans. The solution was to give the "Indian" some land and turn him into a farmer, i.e. turn him into a white man by destroying his culture.

Some of this stuff is very educational in light of the current atmosphere.

8. The music and cinematography are ominous enough

But the show is well-scripted and well acted too. My favorite episodes are "The Architects of Fear", in which Robert Culp agrees to be transformed into an alien to unite the people of earth against a common enemy, the ultimate "the other"; "The Zanti Misfits', which features adorably angry-looking insects the size of a cat; "The Sixth Finger", where David McCallum evolves into a future human with a giant head and extra digits. I loved the show as a kid and felt compelled to watch even though it scared the hell out of me. I remember being relieved when an episode aired featuring two aliens, who looked like people, experimenting with time manipulation, so no "monster of the week" in that one to haunt my dreams.
