How is The Tudors?

Looking for a show to watch, this one has a 95% match. I like period dramas and watching pretty people in pretty costumes on screen, so 95% sounds about right.
But, few things annoy like a series that fizzles after a few episodes or the first season. Do I remember correctly that this show is one of those?? Is it worth diving into?
Edit: I am on S1 E6 and enjoying it! Ive done lots of pauses to google stuff/people to get the real history. I only know the basic outline of this time period, and what I saw on Wolf Hall a few years ago (which I loved). Also having to google some actors to satisfy the Now, where have I seen this dude before?? question (best revelation: Cromwell = Franklin Mott from True Blood. I cackled for a full minute.)
Thanks for all the comments. Yall rock.

(9,629 posts)I thought it was pretty good. I would definitely say watch the first season and see if you like it.

(9,923 posts)Just don't expect any historical accuracy. Think of it as "Game of Thrones" with Tudor characters and all will be well.

(19,061 posts)Is way off. Not very Tudor/Henrican at all. The historical events are well played out, but Henry VIII was at least 6'2", A red head who got more obese as he grew older.
Being a Period Costumer myself, I notice things like that. But I understand that this is for a more modern/soap operaish audience who does not care for such details.

(27,291 posts)I couldn't get past the first episode. I semi-enjoyed 'The White Princess' but it crashed into inaccurate nonsense, too.
If you ever want to see some good Tudor shows, I highly recommend 'The Six Wives of Henry VIII' with Keith Michel, 'Elizabeth R' with Glenda Jackson and HBO did a great mini series on Elizabeth I with Helen Mirren and Jeremy Irons.

(38,937 posts)I can sometimes carry on if its clearly fantasy like Star Wars, but the in-between stuff is painful.
Gravity was painful.
I will take a pass on Ad Astra...
What might you think of Outlander?
My Scots ancestors could be flaming racist assholes. It took my grandfather's generation to get over it.
Like they should talk, hiding the Irish in them.
My grandfather called my wife the "Mexican girl."
Men in his Wild West family did not marry Mexican girls. He boycotted our wedding.
To his credit he got over it.

(27,291 posts)I recently switched over to HBO so I can watch 'Game of Thrones' this Winter. I was told I would recognize a number of actual historical scenarios that were incorporated into the fictional series. Plus I understand there are dragons, and I love dragons.
When it comes to movies and/or series based on true historical figures, especially UK history, I can be a real stickler. The actual stories are always more interesting than the drivel that so many writers concoct around the truth. While I still had Starz I started watching 'The Spanish Princess' and, again, turned if off before the end of the first episode. What a mess.
It's better if I watch something like 'The Borgias' because I'm not overly familiar with that family.

(32,017 posts)Wolf Hall is, by far, my favorite period piece on that era.

(27,291 posts)I'd actually like to watch it again because I'm in a better place to really focus on the story.
