Just watched the first episode of "Away"

2. I liked it for the most part...

One friend criticized it as having been written by a "women should stay at home" devotee. Another called it "Lifetime In Space". I am a big fan of Hillary Swank, made it easier to overlook the problems with the story. I won't give away spoilers, but there's some wonky science and tired plot lines, but I'll be looking out for season two.

9. Finished the series last night. Very good. Some very suspenseful situations. (Maybe some spoilers)

Emma Green embarks on a treacherous mission to Mars in command of an international crew, leaving behind her husband and teenage daughter.

Really like the show and most of the characters.

There are some slow segments, mostly involving Hillary Swank's daughter (15) and her romantic involvement with a very nice guy who is 2 years older. Understand this is to lay groundwork and background for drama of crew being away from their families during their 3 year mission. Fast forwarded through them if they became too drawn out.

Also not thrilled the writers are hinting at romantic interests between Commander Emma Green (Swank) and Ram Arya (PanthakI) 2nd in command and medical doctor, also between Emma's husband Matt (Josh Charles) and Emma's friend Melissa. This just seems like a easy plot twists.

Appreciated the family background on all the crew members. Gave you a inkling of where they were coming from in their interactions and dialogue.

The space travel and events happening during the trip were at times filled with tension. During the entry into Mars atmosphere I think I was actually holding my breath.

Good series. Looking forward to the next season.

We left the crew of the Atlas just moments after they touched down on Mars, with the entirety of their 18-month stay on the Red Planet stretching out before them. Much to the shock and disappointment of fans around the world, we'll never find out what happens next, as Netflix has declined to renew the show for a second season. Struggling to make sense of why Netflix would cancel such a popular show? We are too, but we have a few theories as to why Away was axed.

Is Netflix Renewing Away For Season Two?
Netflix has cancelled Away after just one season. The announcement came down about six weeks after the show debuted on Netflix, right on the schedule that showrunner Jessica Goldberg told Esquire she expected to receive the news.

Why was Away Cancelled?
After it landed on Netflix on September 4th, Away rocketed into Netflix’s top ten lineup, even earning the coveted “#1 on Netflix” spot. Away spent several weeks in the top 10 Nielsen streaming rankings, peaking at #2 for its first full week of release. The show’s immediate popularity suggested a speedy renewal, yet we have a few theories as to why Away fell under the axe.

Away reportedly cost Netflix over $6 million per episode, making it one of the most expensive Netflix shows of all time. Certainly those big-budget special effects (fireball in space, anyone?) take time and money to produce—perhaps more than Netflix was willing to spend.

I thought it could go at least a couple more sessions. Great writing and acting. I really enjoyed it. What a bummer.
