MI-5 a/k/a Spooks

This is one fast-moving and fun secret agent series! ( on BritBox)
It has about 10 seasons, each with ten episodes. Started in 2003, kind of right after 2001, so it has 'that' view of the world. and lots of terrific British actors who have gone on to bigger things.
If you're looking for something to take your mind off COVID and Trump for a while, this definitely works.

Fun show. love the camera work. Sometimes jittery, sometimes they zoom in and out seemingly randomly. Adds to the tension and intensity.

I also like the high turnover. It's actually cool in a show like this that you don't know "oh, he'll survive that. No way they're killing off that mi5 officer" nope! No one is safe in this show!

2. One of the things I love about foreign series--they aren't afraid to write off characters.

American series are so reluctant to switch out characters. They'll go years & years with only a minor change or two in the cast.

And it’s a little heartbreaking-even if it is just a tv show.

Most shows you can tell who is expendable and who is key to the franchise. The classic is the Star Trek away party when you know the red shirt guy is in trouble! And then you have some superhero movie like Batman, where no matter how dire the situation is, you already know the hero escapes somehow.

But this makes it much more exciting because now *every* time one of a star character get in a jam, you have to worry that maybe they actually won't survive this. So it gets you more involved in everything.

For those of you who are a fan of Danny Oyelowo (Selma, Queen of Katwe, A United Kingdom, and so much more), his role in Spooks was one of his earlier roles.

The show has a great cast of actors who have been in other productions.

7. Yes mrs. Unblock is a pro at recognizing actors from all the other shows

Wish we could find a way to monetize that skill lol.

We watch a ton of British crime dramas. We joke that there can't be very many British actors because they keep using the same lot.

Also, Shetland seems like a beautiful place to visit but there's like only 78 people there and it seems half of them are murderers!
