I have a new theory why I had prolonged and profound leg weakness for about six months after my latest Covid booster last October. Possibly Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Symptoms can appear either with a Covid booster (antibodies) or the contraction of the virus. Not everyone will suffer from GBS with a booster. Those with Jewish DNA are susceptible. And that I have.

Symptoms of Guillain-Barre syndrome may include:

A pins and needles feeling in the fingers, toes, ankles or wrists.
Weakness in the legs that spreads to the upper body.
Unsteady walk or not being able to walk or climb stairs.
Trouble with facial movements, including speaking, chewing or swallowing.
Double vision or inability to move the eyes.
Severe pain that may feel achy, shooting or cramplike and may be worse at night.
Trouble with bladder control or bowel function.
Rapid heart rate.
Low or high blood pressure.
Trouble breathing.

I had the two bolded symptoms. Everything is fine now. Other medical websites advise that symptoms can disappear between six months and one year.

While I don't expect to rush out to a neurologist for a spinal tap, I will pursue blood tests to see if they detect GBS.
