Something I recently learned that I never knew before I started having issues seeing out of my left eye. My regular ophthalmologist thought I had age related macular degeneration. She thought this because I had something called choridial retinal neovascukarization which in most cases caused by AMD.
However, it can also be caused by pathological Myopia ,which no one had ever mentioned to me before. Apparently if you have suffered from Myopia for a long time and have a severe case of it, which I have, you can be at risk for CRN. It's basically caused by your blood vessels sending too much blood to your retinal area and they form a blockage under it causing a part of your vision to be blocked by what appears to be a big black circle.
Good news is it is treatable with medication a retinal specialist injects into your eye. I have had 2 of 3 injections so far and vision is much better.
Thought I'd share since I panicked at the thought of AMD, and I wasn't told by the opthomologist there was other possible causes. Luckily I live close enough to a major teaching hospital that has an eye care institute that is up to date on all the known conditions and treatments, and top specialists.
Hopefully this will help others who may have something similar happen to know, if it's something major, it never hurts to seek out more information and second opinions.

(20,667 posts)Just call my "Miss Myopia". Fortunately, my prescription is still under -4, so I'm better off than many. I get my eyes checked annually, including a retinal scan.
