I listen to music every morning for about an hour. I didn't know there was a study (see link) about the therapeutic benefits, but I have felt them. I listen with another person and that's all we do: no sipping coffee, no fiddling around on the computer or cell phones, just a pure relaxed state where we do nothing but listen.

The study observed participants in the Listen Up experience by Indigo Project. Participants listened to music in a dimmed studio, resulting in a range of emotional reactions.
These deep musical immersions were not just mere enjoyment; they were seen as cathartic journeys leading to a serene state.

(113,130 posts)and it's not just music, it's books read aloud on YouTube. I've found great stuff like "A Canticle for Liebowitz" and "A Confederacy of Dunces," for instance, nice to get reacquainted with them.
I listen to music all over the planet. When I first moved out here, it was a short wave radio. Now it's the net. London alone has 450+ stations to explore. Plus, there are low power indie stations all over the US.
I do deep dive listening a lot because I can't do anything else. The article is correct about the effects, with or without cannabis. With cannabis just makes it a bit more fun.

(37,864 posts)very interesting. What program do you use to find the London stations?
and to add to your point about cannabis, we often do a progressive relaxation exercise before listening, which puts us in an almost hypnogogic state. It's like entering another world.

(113,130 posts)Just move the map around to change countries. Knowing your geography helps.
Click on the city name, click on "view all ___ stations" to see the section in that locality.
The Pyongyang station was kind of a surprise, it's peppy music to keep the workers motivated but no harangues. Production quality is insanely good. N. Korea ever dumps the dictators, they're going to pull in people worldwide to record music.
Happy exploring!
