Nearly half of American children ages 1 to 5 49 percent do not eat a vegetable daily, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In addition, not quite 1 in 3 young children (32 percent) eat fruit daily, and more than half (57 percent) drink a sugar-sweetened beverage at least once a week.

Parents who don't eat healthy either.
Grand parents who let the parents get away with it when they were young.
High prices for the food.
Over scheduled kids whose parents don't have time to cook?
Take your pick.

(52,259 posts)for 15+ years and after I started teaching "nutrition" and daily reviewing every item on the daily lunch school lunch menu they actually said they liked healthy food BETTER. I sent away for 4H Nutrition lessons for teachers (for free too) since nutrition was not in the curriculum. I only let them bring healthy snacks amd I made sure they took salad and fruit and I watched to see if they ate it. Soon their parents were coming to thank me since their own kids were educating them.
